Journey with JASPA: New Orleans 2025

Hosted by Loyola University New Orleans

June 23, 2025, through June 27, 2025

Loyola University New Orleans is proud to host the 2025 JASPA 5-Year Institute, bringing together student affairs leaders from Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States and Belize. This signature in-person event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the joy and justice embedded in our shared mission and commitment to Jesuit education and student affairs.

The staff at Loyola University New Orleans, along with the JASPA 2025 planning committee, are committed to providing you with a transformational and enjoyable professional development experience.  During this time, you will be able to connect with colleagues, engage with interesting topics and proposals, and interact with the unique culture that a campus in New Orleans can provide.

Loyola University New Orlean’s picturesque main campus is located in the historic Uptown neighborhood, surrounded by century-old oak trees and just steps away from the iconic St. Charles Avenue streetcar. Our campus is a thriving place with significant improvements currently happening including the completion of the Chapel of St. Ignatius and Gayle and Tom Benson Jesuit Center, renovation of the Danna University Center, Buddig Residence Hall, and the building of a new Residence Hall.  Events will be taking place in the Sportscomplex, Monroe Hall, Miller Hall, Rousell Performace Center, and other locations on campus.

The 2025 JASPA 5-Year Institute is coming to Loyola New Orleans, and the Institute Planning Committee is excited to solicit 60-minute break-out sessions that present promising practices that connect our work with our shared Ignatian heritage. Below are some reminders and details for anyone interested in submitting a proposal.

Monday, October 7: Call for program proposals opens!
Friday, December 20 at 11:59 PM PST: Deadline to submit a program proposal.
Late February 2025: Program proposal decision notifications.

JESUIT: Many paths have led us to our work at Jesuit institutions. How can we find purpose and meaning from our work? What are the promising practices that help guide and support students during their educational journeys at Jesuit institutions?

JUSTICE: How do we address issues of inequities and injustices on our campuses? What are the programs and activities that have helped us to provide equitable resources and opportunities for all of our students?

JOY: Where do we find joy in our work and how do we share that joy with colleagues?  What are the programs and activities that have assisted students in finding their joy?   How do we accompany students toward a hope filled future?

If you have any questions about program proposals, please reach out to Paul Irish (pirish@holycross.edu), Andrea Hoffman (amhoffman1@loyola.edu), or Matt Lamsma (lamsma@gonzaga.edu).

Pre-Institute Spiritual Retreat - Monday, June 23, 2025, 9am-3pm

Prior to the official opening of the JASPA Five Year Summer Institute, we invite all participants to join us for a day of reflection as we come together with colleagues to develop a deeper understanding of the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) of the Society of Jesus and how they intersect with our individual selves and the work we do as student affairs professionals - Discernment and Prayer, Walking with the Excluded, Journeying with the Youth, and Caring for Our Common Home.

The retreat will include talks from four featured speakers who are experts on each of the UAPs with structured and unstructured time for individual, small, and large group reflections. We will conclude the retreat with a sending forth and takeaway of ideas from colleagues in attendance. A light breakfast and boxed lunches will be provided for attendees.

No knowledge of the UAPs or prior retreat experience is necessary to participate in this Pre-Institute Retreat. Relevant articles will be shared for review prior to the retreat, with a brief overview of the UAPs occurring at the beginning of the day. For more information on the UAPs, please visit this website.

The Pre-Institute Retreat will be Monday, July 20 from 9:30am-2:30pm and will cost $30. Any questions can be directed to Melissa Moore or Cathleen Doane Cannon.
