Make An Appointment
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 504-865-3835. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30am - 4:45pm.
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Intake
Before the time of your appointment, you will complete a few short forms to provide your counselor with some important information about you and your concerns. Your counselor will meet with you for approximately 50-minutes to gather information about your concerns and your history and a plan for continued treatment will be reviewed. A follow-up individual counseling appointment may be scheduled at the end of your intake appointment or a plan will be developed to refer you to the appropriate treatment. An individual counseling appointment typically lasts 50-minutes and addresses your areas of concern in depth.
Crisis Appointments
Same day crisis appointments are available for students experiencing a mental health emergency.
If an emergency occurs during regular office hours, call the UCC at 504-865-3835 or visit the UCC on the second floor of the Danna Center (Suite 208). If the emergency occurs outside of office hours, call the UCC at 504-865-3835 and press 1 after the prompt to speak with the counselor on-call. A professional staff member is on-call at all times.
Case Management
Please have a current copy of your health insurance card on hand at your first remote appointment. Before your appointment, you will complete a few short forms to provide the case manager with some important information about you and your concerns. The case manager will meet with you for approximately 30-minutes to gather information about your concerns and to assist you with providing referral information, securing appointment(s) with off-campus providers, developing a post-hospitalization plan, and/or getting connected to other resources on- or off-campus.
Joining a Group
The UCC provides group counseling services to students who are interested in exploring an alternative option to individual counseling or who would like to be in a group in addition to being in individual counseling.
If you are a current client and are interested in attending group counseling, have a conversation with your counselor. If you are not a current client, call the UCC to schedule a Group Orientation appointment. During the Group Orientation appointment you will be asked about your interest in joining a group, reasons for doing so, and whether or not group counseling is the best fit for your needs.
