Student Conduct Resources
Advisor
Throughout the conduct process, both the complainant and the respondent have the right to be accompanied by an advisor of their choice at any conduct meeting or hearing.
The role of the advisor is limited to providing advice and consultation to the person they are supporting. Advisors may not act or speak on behalf of their advisee. This includes corresponding on behalf of the student, submitting information or materials, or addressing the hearing body or questioning witnesses.
Advisors may be attorneys, but they may not act in the role of legal counsel. If a student chooses to bring an advisor who is an attorney, they must notify the Student Conduct or the applicable hearing body at least two (2) working days in advance of the meeting or hearing. The University retains the right to have legal counsel present at any conduct meeting or hearing.
Advisors are expected to follow the instructions of the hearing body. Advisors who do not comply with these expectations may be removed from the proceeding at the discretion of the hearing body or the Director of Student Conduct.
Advisors are encouraged to attend the initial meeting with the designated University official. This provides an opportunity to review the University’s policies and procedures, privacy protections, and expectations for participation and decorum.
